Janelle Lavender Tobin Memorial Scholarship

Criteria

Janelle Lavender Tobin was raised in Danvers, MA and attended Danvers Public schools. She graduated from Danvers High School in 2015 before attending the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. During her junior year in college, Janelle was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare soft tissue bone cancer. She fought for 7 months with a smile on her face and the utmost positive attitude but sadly lost her battle on November 24, 2018.

Janelle always had a smile on her face and was always willing to help others. She had many friends and left a positive impression all who met her. She strived to make a difference is this world and was a natural leader. She was always engaged in a variety of activities including gymnastics as a child, cheering for Danvers Youth Football, DHS football and basketball, DECA and community service.

The Janelle Lavender Tobin Memorial Scholarship will award a scholarship to a graduating high school senior who will be attending a four-year Massachusetts state college/university. Because Janelle’s favorite mantra was “Happiness is a Choice,” the selection committee is looking to award this scholarship to a student who displays similar characteristics as Janelle as evidenced through community service efforts, letter of recommendations and personal essay.
